Elm Tree Class: A great start back to the final half-term of the year!

Date: 17th Jun 2025 @ 3:50pm

Hello everyone,

We hope you all had a a wonderful half term break and enjoyed some well deserved rest and fun with family and friends.

Last week we kicked off the new half-term with a fantastic Inspiration Day focused on 'reduce, reuse and recyle.' The children took part in a range of different hands on activites that helped them understand how much small changes can help our planet.

One of our favourite activites has been making our own paper! Using old, used paper, the children followed a step-by-step process to create their very own recycled paper:

  1. Shredding – Tearing used paper into small pieces.
  2. Soaking – Leaving the paper to soak in water overnight until it turned into a pulp-like mixture.
  3. Squashing – Pressing the pulp to remove excess water.
  4. Rolling – Spreading and flattening the pulp onto trays.
  5. Drying – Leaving the sheets to dry and transform into brand-new paper!

The children were fascinated by the process and loved seeing how something old could be turned into something new.

As part of our learning, the children have also been discovering how to separate their rubbish correctly - learning the difference between general waste and recycling . It’s been wonderful to see them becoming more mindful of their choices and thinking about how to reduce waste in everyday life.

In Design and Technology (D.T.), the creativity didn’t stop there! The children have made a brilliant start on their junk modelling projects, using recycled materials to build imaginative creations. From robots to rockets, their ideas are as inventive as they are eco-friendly!

We have had a great start to the half term and will be in touch soon.

Have a lovely week, love from Elm Tree Class x
