Pine Tree Class: A Mexican Adventure

Date: 25th Jun 2025 @ 3:56pm

This week, we have been finishing up on our Numeracy topic of Shapes. Some students have absolutely flown through their work and have moved from 2D Shapes to learning about 3D shapes. They have been noticing different 3D shapes from around the room, such as a plank of wood being a cuboid or a tub of wipes being a cylinder. They have all absolutely smashed their work - well done everyone!

Our topic of the week this week is Geography. We have been learning about two different Mexican artists, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Frida painted herself and showed her feelings through art. She had an accident and her feelings of sadness and pain are reflected through her art though it is bright and beautiful. Diego painted murals and his art showed people working; his paintings were bold and strong.

We have also been exploring Day of the Dead which is a day in Mexico where families remember people that have died. They make altars with photos, candles, and flowers. It is a happy time where people believe the spirits will come back to visit. We have made and decorated our own sugar skulls and used lots of bright colours. We have been wearing Mexican hats, using ukeleles, maracas and dancing along to Mexican music which has been lots of fun and the students loved getting involved.
