Elm Tree Class: All about the coast!
Date: 26th Jun 2025 @ 3:30pm
Hello everybody,
We hope you have all had a fantastic week. We certainly have in Elm Tree.
This half term, our Geography lessons have taken us on a fascinating journey to the coastline! The children have been diving into the world of coastal features, and their enthusiasm and understanding have truly impressed us.
We began by identifying a variety of coastal features such as cliffs, beaches, headlands, bays, and spits. Using maps, the children have been learning how to locate and trace the coastline, developing their skills in map reading and geographical observation.
A key part of our learning has been distinguishing between human and physical features found along the coast. From harbors and piers to sand dunes and rock formations, the children have shown a great ability to tell the difference and explain their significance.
This week, we’ve been focusing on the powerful process of erosion. The children have explored how the sea shapes the land over time, wearing away rocks and creating new landforms.
We’re so proud of how engaged and knowledgeable the children have been throughout this topic. Their growing understanding of the natural world is inspiring!
Some of our children have been making their own beaches using sand, sea creatures, shells and water.
Have a lovely weekend and stay safe. We can’t wait to be back in touch next week.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our coastal adventure!
