Pine Tree Class: Ancient Greece

Date: 19th Jun 2025 @ 3:53pm

This week, we have been channelling our inner Ancient Greeks in History.

We have been making the most of the weather and spent some time outside learning about how the Olympic Games were formed. The very first Olympic Games were held in Olympia, Greece in 776BC. The events included foot races (such as running), long jump, discus, javelin and wrestling. We recreated some of these events whilst we were outside, using plastic javelins and discuses and the students loved exploring the different events and challenging each other.

We then extended this topic by exploring the difference between houses from Ancient Greece and the houses that we see in the UK today. The students were able to say whether the houses were New or Old and say which area they were from. We then moved on to researching what food the Anicent Greeks used to enjoy. Their diet consisted mainly of grains, olives, grapes and legumes; this has now developed into the typical Mediterranean diet of whole foods and healthy fats.

To finish off our topic, tomorrow we will be exploring some Greek food, such as flatbreads, feta, olives and some dips - we can't wait!
