Bay Tree: Caring For Our Environment

Date: 19th Mar 2026 @ 3:48pm

This week in Bay Tree, we have been learning all about our environment as part of our geography topic.

To begin our learning we focused on helping sea animals. As part of our Attention Autism, we worked together to “save the fish” from a polluted sea. The children carefully removed the fish with magnet rods and helped place them into a cleaner, safer environment. This was a great way to understand why it is important to keep our oceans clean.

We then created our own aquariums! The children loved adding blue food colouring to the water and watching it change colour. We added fish to our aquariums, creating a calm and engaging sensory experience. This helped us think about what sea creatures need to live happily and safely.

Next, we turned our attention to animals closer to home. We made our own bird feeders using coconut oil and seeds. The children mixed the ingredients together and shaped them before hanging them on the trees outside. We are excited to see which birds come to visit! This activity helped us learn how we can care for wildlife in our local environment.

Some children also explored recycling and rubbish sorting through play. Using miniature dustbins, the children sorted different items into rubbish and recycling. This hands-on activity supported our understanding of how to keep our environment clean and why recycling is important.

It has been a fun and meaningful topic, full of sensory exploration, creativity, and important life lessons.

Well done Bay Tree.
