Bay Tree: Exploring Kirkham

This week in Geography, Bay Tree have been learning all about Kirkham, our immediate locality, and some of the special places we can find in the area around us.

We enjoyed learning about St Michael’s Church, a familiar landmark in our local area. To help us remember the beautiful stained-glass windows, we made our own colourful stained-glass window pictures. We had lots of fun choosing different colours. We also learnt about the memorial ground in Kirkham and why it is an important place in our local community to remember people. We created our own bright poppies with paint and ziplock bags, the children enjoyed feeling the texture. Finally, we learnt about Carr Hill Mill and discovered that Kirkham once had a windmill. We problem solved how to make windmills spin, we did this by blowing bubbles and paint, blowing mini windmills and even exploring mini fans.

We have loved exploring our immediate locality and learning about some of the important places, landmarks and features that make Kirkham special.
