Bay Tree: Little Red Riding Hood
Date: 24th Sep 2026 @ 3:58pm
This week in Bay Tree we’ve had lots of fun in our Literacy lessons as we’ve stepped into the magical world of Little Red Riding Hood! 🧺❤️
We have enjoyed the story through props, signs and music. The children communicate in whatever way worked for them. A smile, a look, a reach, a sound or a gesture. We celebrated every attempt to communicate and join in. Some of our children have been enjoying exploring a sensory tray linked to the story. They have been able to investigate different textures, objects and props from the Little Red Riding Hood story, encouraging sensory exploration alongside communication and engagement. It has been lovely to see pupils reaching, touching, looking and making choices as they explore.
Other children have been developing their understanding of the story by re-reading it through familiar props. As the story is repeated, they are becoming familiar with the objects, actions and key phrases.
Other children have started to order the events in the story. Using props and simple pictures, they have been beginning to make choices about what happens next and develop their understanding of the story.
Our literacy sessions are all about having fun, building confidence and making stories accessible to everyone. The repeated language, familiar props and predictable routines help the children feel secure while giving them lots of opportunities to engage and communicate.
We’re so proud of all the little moments of attention, anticipation, choice-making and communication we’ve seen during our story adventures! 📖
