Bay Tree: Old and New Transport

Date: 5th May 2026 @ 3:45pm

Last week in history, we have explored the exciting topic of old and new transport through a range of engaging, hands-on activities.

To begin, we focused on our Attention Autism session, where the children took turns pushing toy cars down a ramp. This was a fantastic way to build anticipation and encourage turn-taking and we watched how far each car travelled. The children showed great curiosity and enjoyment, with lots of smiles and shared attention throughout the activity.

We then moved on to sensory exploration, where the children explored trays filled with different materials such as plastic, rubber, and metal. These materials helped us think about what different types of transport are made from. The children enjoyed feeling the textures, and some showed clear preferences.

As part of our history learning, some children worked on sorting pictures of transport into “old” and “new” groups. This helped to introduce the concept of change over time in a simple and accessible way. It was wonderful to see some children beginning to recognise differences and make choices between the two categories.

Overall, it was a fun, interactive lesson that supported communication, sensory exploration, and early historical understanding.

Well Done Bay Tree
