Compass Centre: Communication Time
Date: 19th Jun 2026 @ 8:32am
This week’s Compass Centre blog focuses on communication. Throughout the week, pupils have had many opportunities to engage in focused learning linked to communication, both verbal and through the use of communication devices or books. In all sessions, pupils have access to their communication aids to support their learning and participation.
During food preparation sessions, pupils used communication boards to make choices about which ingredients they would like to include in their sweet toasties. They were encouraged to select from a range of options, such as spreads and toppings, developing both their decision-making skills and independence. Staff modelled language throughout, helping pupils to build confidence in expressing their preferences.
In PSHE, pupils explored a range of emotions, including happy and sad. Through structured activities and discussion, they were supported to recognise these feelings in themselves and others. Pupils were encouraged to communicate how they were feeling using their preferred method, whether that be spoken language, symbols or communication devices, helping to build emotional awareness and self-expression.
We hope you have a lovely weekend!
