Elm Tree Class: Moving Monsters, Aliens and Astronauts

Hi Everybody!

This week Elm Tree Class have started to make their mechanical monsters, aliens and astronauts in the Design and Technology lesson. 

In the last lesson the pupils had decided if they wanted to make a monster, alien or astronaut and if its arms or legs would move using linkages.  There was a lot of printing, cutting, and sticking going on to ensure there were enough parts so the linkages could move without sticking.  Some pupils completed their monsters and explored how the linkages made their arms move, so next week they will be using different materials to follow their plan.

We also had the opportunity to explore different light up, and mechanical toys, and make choices based on what was our favourite and least favourite.  The pupils really liked the scuttling crab, but the staff weren’t so thrilled by how it moved!
