Maple Tree: First week back!

Wow aren't we glad that summer is over!! Everyone has come back to Maple Tree with smiles on their faces! They have settled in well and we have been focusing on making friendships with some of our new classmates. 

In literacy, we are going to be reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears so this week we've started exploring some of the key concepts in the book. We've loved exploring porridge and deciding if it is too thin or too thick and adding more oats or water to the mixture. We've also been deciding if it it's too hot or cold and mixing it with ice or warm water until it was just right! We've linked this to our creative curriculum theme "brilliant bodies" by labelling both human and bear body parts. We have even drawn round ourselves and labelled our own body parts. 

During numeracy, we focused on 'time', exploring the different objects associated with night and day. We have enjoyed pretending to go to bed with a pillow and blanket, then brushing our teeth and having some cereal to start the day! The foam splatting clocks was definitely a favourite of the week, where we did careful counting by splatting the time a chosen number of times- very messy!

Our topic this week has been Makaton, where we have been learning all the signs for colours. We made it fun by signing the colours to our rainbow song, going on a colour scavenger hunt, and making rainbows with mixed media (paint, tissue paper, coloured light up tubes and balloons).
