Maple Tree: Learning about Lowry

Another great week in Maple tree! 

This week we have been exploring the work of L.S. Lowry, focusing specifically on his painting 'At the Seaside'. All of our learning has been linked to the seaside theme, providing the class with opportunities to engage with artwork through creative, sensory, and experiential activities.

During attention autism, we have been watching the teacher build 5 sandcastles and then washing them away with a water squirter, whilst we sang the song "5 Little Sandcastles". We enjoyed taking turns washing away the sandcastles ourselves (or splatting them when we got very excited). I'm sure we're all waiting for summer to come back round again so we can go visit a real beach - Blackpool maybe?

We have been exploring the sand, and even incorporating the sand with paint into our very own seaside picture. We used bubble wrap to add texture for the sea, and stamped with painted carrots to represent the little people in Lowry's painting. This linked well with our lesson focus of technique and control, where we worked hard on our fine motor skills.
