Pine Tree Class: Early Mapping Skills

This week in Pine Tree we have been learning about Early Mapping Skills.

Some of our learners have been accessing Google Maps and have been navigating their way around the local area, looking at points of interest such as Morrisons, Kirkham Train Station, Blackpool Tower, Blackpool Police Station, Preston Bus Station and local café’s, and places of worship. We then began looking at what we could do in these places and our wonderful students were able to use the correct verbs to express themselves using a word mat to help.

Another set of learners were accessing mapping through Attention Autism where they watched a world map covered in coloured sand be slowly revealed by blowing through a straw, and then they accessed a feely bag filled with different textures, smells and sounds. Our brilliant learners were able to press the switch to hear the sounds of the jungle and birds and were able to express a preference too.

It’s been a busy week that has also been filled with additional nativity rehearsals too, we can’t wait for you to see it!
