Rowan Tree: Forest School Fun

Date: 26th Mar 2026 @ 9:27pm

As our term comes to an exciting end, we wanted to share some highlights from our recent Forest School sessions. We have been very lucky over the past couple of weeks, with the sun shining during our visits. Despite the sunnier weather, there has still been plenty of mud to enjoy and the children have especially loved jumping in the muddy puddles and spending time in the mud kitchen, making the most of the outdoor environment.

One of the standout activities recently has been our mini-beast hunts. The children have thoroughly enjoyed lifting logs and exploring underneath to discover tiny creatures in their natural habitats. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity, as well as the care and respect they have shown towards the wildlife they found. The children have also taken time to look after nature by feeding the birds. They enjoyed collecting the bird seed and placing it in the birds’ favourite spots, developing an understanding of how we can care for the world around us.

Potion-making has been another firm favourite activity, linking beautifully with our “Spellbound” creative curriculum theme. The children have been busy mixing fresh lemons and lemon juice with leaves and twigs to create their own magical concoctions. During this activity, they have been developing a range of skills including stirring, pouring, measuring, counting, and using their fine motor skills to carefully pick up lemons with tongs. Alongside this, they have also loved fishing for apples, using nets to catch the bobbing fruit and showing great hand-eye coordination.

The treehouse and obstacle course continue to be very popular, giving the children opportunities to climb, explore and build their confidence as they navigate different challenges. Back on the ground, creativity has flourished as the children have used mud for painting, creating wonderful natural artwork and fully embracing the messy, sensory experience of outdoor learning.

We feel incredibly lucky to have these weekly Forest School sessions, and they are always a highlight of our week. We are already looking forward to even more fun during the summer term. We hope all of our children and their families have a lovely Easter break. We cant wait to welcome everyone back for the summer term on Monday 13th April. Please remember to bring swimming kits, as we will be adding swimming to our timetable next term!
