Rowan Tree: Getting Creative
Date: 24th Apr 2026 @ 9:19am
In Rowan Tree this week, our topic has been art. Linked to our creative curriculum theme of ‘Our Wonderful World’, we have been exploring the work of Richard Long. We learned how art can be created using materials from the world around us and discovered how Richard Long makes sculptures and patterns using natural items such as stones, sticks, and leaves.
During our Attention Autism session, we watched our teacher carefully create a snake using pebbles. We loved seeing how these simple materials could be arranged to make something so imaginative and eye-catching—it really inspired us to have a go ourselves! We then set to work creating our own pictures using natural resources such as twigs, leaves, and flower petals. There was lots of creativity as we explored different shapes, patterns, and designs. Some of us made animals, while others created colourful pictures and interesting patterns. It was wonderful to see everyone so engaged and proud of their creations.
The whole class have also been swimming this week. We’ve loved seeing the children enjoy themselves in the water, practising their skills and growing in confidence even at this early stage. We can’t wait to see how they develop over the rest of the term. It’s been a fantastic week of creativity, exploration and new experiences in Rowan Tree!
