Rowan Tree: MADD week
Date: 9th Jul 2026 @ 6:01pm
What an amazing week we’ve had! This week has been MADD (Music, Art, Dance and Drama) Week, which has meant a whole week off timetable, giving us the opportunity to get creative, have fun and learn in lots of different ways. The theme for this year’s MADD Week has been “The Americas”, linking to the World Cup and giving us the chance to explore and celebrate the wonderful range of cultures across this part of the world. Each class was also been given a country to represent during our final celebration at the end of the week. Our country has been Argentina!
In Literacy, instead of reading our usual story, we’ve been watching an interactive video that has taken us on a virtual adventure around the countries of the Americas. We’ve pretended to be jazz musicians in Louisiana, carnival dancers in Brazil and even different animals living in the Colombian rainforest! After each adventure, we’ve made sure to get our passports stamped so we can keep track of all the countries we’ve “visited”.
Throughout the week we’ve enjoyed so many creative activities. We’ve painted Argentinian flags, decorated colourful masks and designed our very own sombreros. We also made our own musical instruments and listened to the Spanish versions of some of our favourite songs. Today, we explored different foods before making our own paper plate tacos. We even took our learning outside, where we discovered that street art is a popular part of Argentine culture before unleashing our creativity to create some fantastic artwork of our own.
We’ve also taken part in some brilliant workshops in the hall alongside other classes. These included a fantastic music workshop with John Morrow and an energetic dance session with Dance Syndrome. The children threw themselves into every activity with enthusiasm and smiles all round, and it was lovely to see them spending time with children from other classes, especially as some of them will be sharing classes together next year.
As if that wasn’t enough excitement for one week, we also had our transition morning. Everyone spent time in their new classrooms, met their new classmates and got to know the staff who will be working with them next year. I have to say how incredibly proud we were of all the childre... they coped brilliantly with the changes and fully embraced the experience. We are all confident that they will be very happy in their new classes when they return in September. Before then, though, we still have one more week together, and we’ll be making the very most of it!
