Rowan Tree: Environment - Mud and Mess!
Date: 22nd Jan 2026 @ 3:56pm
This week in Rowan Tree class, our topic has been geography and we have been learning about the environment and how we can look after it. In our Attention Autism sessions, we watched our teacher make muddy puddles right in the middle of our classroom! We then had great fun making muddy footprints with our wellies, which really captured our attention and got us ready to learn.
Next, it was time for our focused work. Some of us learned all about litter and how dropping it can make our environment messy and unsafe. We talked about how we wouldn’t like our classroom to be covered in litter, so we worked together to tidy up by putting all the litter into the bin. We also learned how some of our litter can be recycled and made into new things. We learned that litter needs to be sorted before it can be recycled so some of us set to work sorting the litter into cardboard, plastic, and metal. Once finished, we went for a walk to put all the recycling into the correct recycling bins.
Others of us looked more closely at materials, learning about the difference between naturally occurring materials and human-made materials. We looked at lots of different items and decided if they were natural or human-made items. We then went on a hunt around school to see if we could identify other items that were natural or human-made. We have worked really hard this week and shown great teamwork while learning how we can help to look after our environment.
