Rowan Tree: Our Wonderful World
Date: 17th Apr 2026 @ 8:13am
Rowan Tree Class have had a lovely first week back after the Easter break, settling straight back into routines and diving into this term’s creative curriculum theme: “Our Wonderful World.” Linked to this theme, our literacy text is going to be “Look What I Found in the Woods,” so our inspiration week has been filled with lots of woodland-based exploration and crafts.
The classroom has been full of exciting, hands-on activities to help us explore nature using our senses. Our woodland sensory tray has been a big hit, filled with natural treasures such as pine cones, moss, bark, twigs, leaves and even snail shells. The children have loved touching, investigating and talking about what they can see, feel and smell.
We also got creative with leaf painting, using different shapes and textures to print and create beautiful artwork. It has been wonderful to see the children experimenting and expressing themselves in different ways. Another favourite activity was making bird nests. After looking closely at a (pretend) bird’s nest and the birds and chicks living inside it, the children watched videos of real birds building nests, which had them all captivated. They then carefully built their own nests before decorating birds to live inside them. There was lots of imaginative thinking and fantastic creativity on display!
Today, it was Inspiration Day across the school, and we visited the sensory room to enjoy another story about our wonderful world. We were surprised and delighted to revisit the familiar story “The Snail and the Whale.” We loved exploring all the places the snail and the whale visited on their journey around the world. We are so excited to continue our learning journey and can’t wait to discover even more about the wonderful world we live in over the coming weeks!
