Rowan Tree: Trash To Treasure

Date: 13th Mar 2026 @ 9:12am

This week in Rowan Tree our topic has been Design Technology, and we have been focusing on junk modelling. The classroom has been full of creativity as we explored lots of different ways to build and create using recycled materials.

During our Attention Autism session we watched carefully as the teacher built a huge tower. Everyone waited with great anticipation….and then the tower was pushed over! It was very exciting to watch. After that, some of us had a turn building our own towers. Of course, the best part was that once they were finished, we got to push them over too!

In our focused work, we were set the challenge of making lots of different junk models. Some of us decided to build even more towers, but a fierce dragon came along to try and blow them over! Some children built houses and added lots of details like doors, windows and chimney's. Some were made even more complete with the addition of cardboard people and even a pet cat! Others chose to make masks, binoculars or cars.

While creating our models, we practised lots of important skills. We worked on cutting, sticking, ripping, squashing, shaping and rolling different materials. We also had to plan our ideas and make decisions about which items would work best for our creations. It has been a fantastic week of designing, building and imagining, and we are very proud of all the wonderful models that were created (dome of which have been sent home this weekend).

We also wanted to wish all the Rowan Tree mums a very Happy Mother's Day this weekend and hope you all have a lovely day.
