RowanTree: Spellbound

Date: 6th Mar 2026 @ 8:36am

Rowan Tree Class have been completely captivated by our creative curriculum theme this half term – Spellbound! The start of term has been full of magic, imagination and lots of excitement as we explore this enchanting topic together. Last week was Inspiration Week, when we were first introduced to our new theme. On Monday we were amazed by a magic glittery lemonade fountain, which immediately captured everyone’s attention and set the tone for a magical week ahead.

Throughout the week we enjoyed lots of creative activities. In class we painted magical wand pictures and made our very own magic hats. Later in the week we visited the sensory room, where we became potion makers, carefully mixing different ingredients to create our own magical potions. It was a fantastic experience for everyone. To make the week even more exciting, we watched a real-life magician perform in the hall with the rest of Lower School. The tricks left us all amazed!

This week the magic has continued, especially during our Open Morning, where we kept our Spellbound theme going. We made our own magic wands and used them to help us perform magical experiments. With a wave of our wands we made letters and numbers appear through magic painting, turned white flowers colourful, and even made coloured milk move and swirl like magic. Of course, we also did more potion making – as this has quickly become a favourite activity in Rowan Tree Class. We loved showing the parents who could make it what we've been up to in school.

In Literacy, we have started reading a lovely new book about a little spellmaker who creates a magical spell to cheer up her friends. We are really enjoying discovering the story together and thinking about how magic can be used to spread kindness and happiness. Then of course, yesterday was World Book Day! We had a wonderful time coming to school dressed as characters from some of our favourite books and sharing the stories we love. It has been a truly magical start to our Spellbound topic, and we can’t wait to see what other spells, potions and surprises are to come!
