Rowan Tree: Stories and a steel band!

Date: 5th Feb 2026 @ 4:02pm

This week in Rowan Tree Class our topic has been RE. We have been reading and exploring stories from different religions. We started the week by hearing the story of Noah’s Ark from Christianity. The children really enjoyed role-playing putting the animals onto the ark and had lots of fun playing in the “flood water” while talking about the story.

Next, we learned about Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, and shared the story of Rama and Sita. The children enjoyed taking part in a range of creative activities linked to Diwali, including making lanterns, creating firework paintings and designing beautiful rice rangoli patterns. Finally, we shared a story from Islam about Abu Nasr the fisherman, who helped others even though he didn’t have very much himself, showing us how we should always be kind.

To make the week even more special, we were joined by a steel band yesterday. The children loved listening to the lively rhythms and even having a go at playing themselves. It was a fantastic way to celebrate music from another culture and was enjoyed by everyone.
